Ownership means taking responsibility for the result rather than only executing instructions. Engineering competence requires more than obeying tickets and taking orders. A feature that adds 30% technical debt for a 1% gain should be refused, redesigned, or escalated. Feature work should be challenged when it adds disproportionate technical debt for little value. Engineers who build without asking questions fail professional responsibility. Engineers should own results rather than merely owning code.
