Operational Metrics

Using a single metric keeps the effort focused and makes success easier to judge. The first step in the influence system is choosing one metric in one area tied to real operational or business cost. Targets should be small, narrow, and measurable enough that their results cannot be dismissed as vague activity. Suitable metrics include operational interruptions, restoration time, deployment lead time, production defects, request cost, and error budget burn.
