Egocentric Bias

Egocentric bias causes people to overweight their own effort because they experience it directly. On software teams, developers may understand their own work costs while missing informal context and reputation signals that affect outcomes. Egocentric bias can lead stalled developers to assume that becoming more technically skilled is the only answer. At mid-career, simply grinding for more skill can be a weak strategy if visibility, leadership legibility, or business alignment are missing.
